A Florida deputy is being deemed a hero for quickly jumping into action to rescue a 1-year-old girl from a hot car despite the mother's protest. On Monday, May 20, 2024, deputies from Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call from a woman who had accidentally locked her daughter in the car at a Palm Coast Walmart, according to the release.
Upon arriving, a man at the scene told officers he had put the girl in the car, gone around to the other side, and realized that the keys were inside and the door was locked.
Upon learning that the young child had already been in the hot car for 10 minutes and observing her to be "sweating" and "appearing to be in physical distress," Deputy Harrison decided to break the window. "No, no, no," the mother said.
"I have to because he's been stuck in there," the deputy said. "I don't know how far [Palm Coast Fire Department] is out. She's been stuck in there for 10 minutes." The mother proceeded to seek other options by asking if he had a tool that wouldn't require the window to be smashed, to which Harrison responded he didn't and proceeded to smash the window and get the crying girl from the car.

"The window is more important than your child. Imagine that," one person commented.
"Context for non Floridians on heat Temperature by 9-1030 am is already 95-100 degrees with this humidity," another person said. "By noon it’s cooking over 100 degrees."
