Dad-To-Be Colton Underwood Urges Kindness After Mean Comments On Baby Announcement

Colton Underwood and husband Jordan C. Brown are so excited to become fathers with the help of a surrogate. On May 24, 2024, they shared the good news with the world via an Instagram announcement that they are expecting a baby boy. Sadly, some people chose this moment to spread hate in the comments.

A few days later, Colton addressed the mean comments. He asked his followers to practice understanding and kindness. He is working hard to make sure there is representation of the LGBTQIA+ community in the world. He wants to be the role model he needed when growing up as a confused boy in the closet.

Colton recorded a video to address the issue head on. The video opened with the mean comments flashing on screen. He made sure to thank the many people who have supported their journey to fatherhood. “While the majority was supportive and we felt wrapped in love, I do want to address some of these,” he began.

Colton wants to be a role model for those who might not be comfortable being out yet. The mean comments only prove their worst fears. “I know there's a lot of people who still come to my page after they’ve watched the Netflix show just to check in and see how life is for me, and a lot of those individuals still remain closeted,” he continued. “And for them to read those comments, only solidifies the position that it’s not okay to be completely yourself yet.”

One of the reasons Colton remained closeted for a long time was because of his desire to be a dad. He didn’t think he could do it as a gay man because he did not have an example. “I didn't see the representation in the gay community, and I didn't look hard enough for it,” he explained. “But now that I am out, it’s something that I want to take pride in.”

Colton displayed a huge amount of patience and empathy in his response. He wants to educate ignorant people instead of vilifying them. “I just want to educate and be slow with these people. I want to be patient," he went on to say. "I want them to understand that, you know, maybe this is their first interaction with somebody who is taking this step with their husband and/or in a same-sex relationship that is building a family through IVF, for them to just understand that it’s very intentional.”

Colton and Jordan’s road to fatherhood wasn’t always easy, but it was definitely worth it. “We are going through this because we both want to be dads,” Colton explained. “We both want to be parents. And we both want to love our child so much, and give him the best life and put a good human being into this world."

He concluded by saying: “So, that’s why I will continue to shed light on this. I just encourage everybody to lead with kindness, to be kind, to be patient, and to be understanding.” This is sage life advice that can be applied to many situations.
