Mom Is Worried About Her Son Amid Iran War, But Her Voting History Has Sparked A Ton of Backlash

Since President Donald Trump first announced U.S. military operations in Iran, many stories have come out about military families who are worried about their loved ones. One mom in particular has gone viral on social media after she told her followers that she’s worried about her son, who she says is on deployment in the Middle East. She clarified that although she’s proud of him, she’s also sad and scared.

However, when she took to social media to open up about how she’s feeling, some people wanted to know who she voted for in 2024. And because of the way she answered, a lot of people suspect she voted for President Donald Trump, which has apparently changed how they feel about the whole situation.

Based on the comments she’s received, it’s clear people want to know who the mom voted for.

@nitarunsmn No one likes a cry baby, but what do you do?!? I am not ok…these are real tears of a mom who never imagined her baby boy going off to the military! #runner #army #war #iran #genx ♬ New Sun – Chihei Hatakeyama

In a video that she shared at the end of February, the mom cried as she talked about spending time outside to “pray for peace” and take her mind off things. She captioned her video with, “My son is US Army. He is on deployment in the Middle East. I am not ok…he is ok, but I am not.”

In response to the original video, one person commented, “Quick question. Who did you vote for?” The mom didn’t answer directly, but wrote, “I’m not sure that matters, I was told if I voted for Cackling Kamala, my kids would be sent to war…yet here we are…he’s a liar…”

A lot of people took this to mean that she voted for Trump. One person even commented, “Why did you vote for trump?” And the mom wrote back, saying, “Well, trump said if we vote for Cackling Kamala we’d be sending our kids to war…yet here I am 😳”

These comments sparked a lot of judgment and backlash.

When she shared a follow-up post a few days later, people continued to badger the mom about who she voted for. She basically said she doesn’t see how that matters, which rubbed people the wrong way. “How does my single vote…change the fact that we are in this war?” she responded to another person who asked her about it. “I’ll tell you I’m NOT having the day I voted for 🥰”

After seeing that the mom’s comments suggested that she voted for Trump, someone shared screenshots on Reddit, where people did not seem to feel sorry for her. Many argued that who she voted for does matter, actually. “‘I’m not sure that matters.’ I have no words,” one person commented.

And although the mom seemed to admit that Trump had lied about wanting peace and not starting any wars, people were confused about how she had just figured out that he tends to lie. Someone else wrote, “Incredible that these people are only just now realizing that Trump is, was, and always will be a shameless liar.”

The mom addressed the backlash in a follow-up video.

@nitarunsmn Who did you vote for? I WOULD NEVER ASK YOU…”who did you vote for?” Does it matter?!? Nobody cares…shoot, my own family don’t care who I voted for…did I even vote?!? Well of course I did! It’s my civic duty! Onward & Upward…to the midterms we go… #vote #maga #libs #whocares #love ♬ The Valley – Rhythms of the World

On March 14, she shared another video in which she said, “Everybody on the internet wants to know, who did I vote for?…I’m gonna give you three guesses. If the words peace, love, and run are part of your vocabulary, I likely voted for the same person you did.” However, this did not exactly clear things up for people.

Critics argued that the vague responses make it clear she voted for Trump but doesn’t want to admit it. However, others didn’t see how Trump ever promoted “peace and love.” “so Kamala?” someone commented on that video. Another person wrote, “Def not trump.”

“Well I gave sympathy to the wrong person. If it was Kamala why not say it?” someone else said. In response, the mom wrote, “Who was asking for sympathy…if someone is grieving, I offer a listening ear, no judgement from me :)”

Not everyone seemed bothered by her apparent MAGA history though. Some other parents who have been following the mom’s posts said they could feel her pain.
