Sia has struggled with self-esteem in the past. When she was younger, she was self-conscious about her small chest and decided to have a breast augmentation. Her breast implants caused a series of medical problems for her, however, and she had them removed at the end of 2018. Since then, she's been embracing her natural body, which is why she felt it was important to respond to a troll who said her small chest makes her look "like a young boy."
This story first appeared on LittleThings in August 2019.
You may not recognize Sia Cooper by name, but she's a big deal in the Instagram fitness community. Her page, Diary of a Fit Mommy, has over 1.2 million followers who enjoy her body positivity, exercise, and meal planning posts.
Sia tries to make her account a positive place for people to learn about exercise and nutrition while loving their bodies. That doesn't keep trolls from coming at her and criticizing her, however. Despite her focus on positivity, she has struggled in the past.
When Sia was younger, she was self-conscious about her small chest. She decided to undergo a breast augmentation, a decision that later caused a number of medical issues. At the end of 2018, she decided to have her implants removed.
Since then, Sia's been loving life with her natural body, but not everyone agrees with her. She's had trolls make comments about her chest since having the implants removed. One particular comment was so over the top that she decided to address it directly.
In the comment, the troll wrote:
“because flat chests are more of a middle school thing, unless you like middle school chests your gonna want a woman with a grown up body… and women are gonna want to keep their breasts because it literally makes them look and feel sexier.”
Sia talked about how those comments made her feel to Insider: "I was honestly shocked. I had just gone through this liberating, new journey of having my implants removed and his comments were a punch in the gut — at first."
Sia decided to wait a few days before responding. She posted a photo of herself in a bikini with a screenshot of the comment in the corner. Then she penned an incredible response. She explained that even after blocking this man, he made other accounts to continue harassing her.
After her explanation, she took a stand:
“You know what? My body and my natural breasts are not here for YOUR entertainment. If you’re a man and you’re here for this reason-you’re barking up the wrong tree… Men like you are the reason why I felt pressured into getting breast implants in the first place when I was perfectly fine to begin with.”
Sia went on to praise her decision to go back to her natural chest:
“Now, I don’t give a d*mn how small my breasts are because at the end of the day, I’ve been at both ends of the spectrum and I have never been happier to go back ‘small.'”
She added:
“I’ve never felt more confident or sexy than I do now-naturally. I don’t need perfect breasts to please anyone-its far from my list of goals.”
It’s wonderful for Sia to point out that body goals should be for yourself and not for anyone else.
Sia also pointed out that despite the troll thinking her chest makes her look "like a young boy," there's nothing masculine about a small chest. She explained:
“I do not need big boobs to be happy or feminine. I sure as h*ll don’t need big boobs to please anyone.”
Sia pointed out that she's focusing on herself and her happiness, not the opinions of trolls:
“I’ve reached a point in my life where I’ve got more important things to worry about. I am living MY best life. Emphasis on MY.”
She concluded the long caption with an important reminder:
“Direct your attention to better things in life. Looks fade, confidence won’t.✌ .”
She’s absolutely right about that. How you feel about yourself is so much more important than how you look at any given time.
Sia was right to take some time and come up with a thoughtful response to the troll's comments. Not only do the points she makes defend her position on the matter, but they also give an important perspective to her many followers on what matters and what does not.
