Robert De Niro is loving every moment of fatherhood. In an appearance on Today, the 80-year-old actor opened up about being the dad of a newborn again, saying that it "feels great." He welcomed his seventh child in April 2023, and explained that his parenting approach has changed a lot over the years.
“Well, I have certain awareness,” he began. “When you’re older, you have awareness of certain things in life, dynamics, everything, family dynamics. It’s just, you can’t avoid learning some things, and then how you can deal with those, manage them.”
Aside from his baby Gia, the actor has six other children. Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46, are from a previous marriage to Diahnne Abbott. His twin sons, Aaron and Julian, 27, are from his previous relationship with Toukie Smith. And then Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11, are with his ex-wife Grace Hightower.
For baby Gia, he says she is sleeping “great” and he is “very happy.” As far as how he considers himself to be as a dad, he wouldn't go as far to consider himself a "cool" dad. “I’m OK,” he said. “You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful.”

“My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her,” he continued. “I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is.”
