Kevin Jonas Reveals Skin Cancer Diagnosis, Gets Basal Cell Carcinoma Removed From Hairline

Kevin Jonas is encouraging fans to be on top of their health checkups after learning he had skin cancer. The 36-year-old singer took to Instagram to reveal that he underwent surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from his hairline.

“Friendly reminder to get your moles checked ,” he captioned the video of himself on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at a medical facility before and after the removal surgery.

“So today I am getting a basal cell carcinoma removed from my head,” he said while showing the location of the skin cancer. “Yes, that is a, actual little skin cancer guy that started to grow, and now I have to get surgery to remove it. SO here we go.”

The video then jumps to after his procedure, with the area on his head bandaged. He lifts up the cover and makes a shocked faced before putting it back down over the wound. The video then jumps to show him in the car.

"All right, I'm all done." he said. "Now it's time to heal, heading home. Make sure to get those moles checked people.”

As the Mayo Clinic notes, basal cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that "begins in the basal cells — a type of cell within the skin that produces new skin cells as old ones die off."

It "often appears as a slightly transparent bump on the skin, though it can take other forms," the site continued. There are four types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, nonmelanoma, and squamous cell carcinoma.

The site says that basal cell carcinoma usually appears in areas of your body that are exposed to the sun. It can appear as a "pearly or waxy bump," a "flat, flesh-colored or brown scar-like lesion," or a "bleeding or scabbing sore that heals and returns."

"I’m glad you checked that mole in time. I love you and get well soon ❤️," a fan wrote.

"Thank you for being real and honest about your situation," another person commented. "Skin cancer is always looked at from a 'cut it off and done' kinda cancer. You sharing opens doors for others to realize how important it is to check your skin! Hope surgery went well and keep sharing your experiences, it truly matters."

Kevin's surgery came at a good time. Fortunately, the Jonas Brothers are on a break from touring right now. Their last date was April 30, 2024, in Cancún, Mexico.

The group plans to start the tour back up on August 21, 2024, in Mexico City. Those dates were initially postponed in May when Nick revealed he had the flu. "We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this causes some of you," the post caption read. "Love you all. You’re the best fans in the world. Will bring 120% in August!"
