Man Shoots Home Intruder And Then Finds Out It’s His Wife’s Live-In Boyfriend Of A Year

A potentially scary situation happened in Alabama that has left one husband very confused.

On August 15, 2021, around 9 p.m., the Mobile County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a shooting that was happening in a town called Creola. Two men were injured by the time the officers arrived, and luckily nobody suffered from a fatality. While a man thought he was shooting a home invader, he was actually shooting his wife's secret lover.

Not only had his wife been having an affair for approximately a year, but the lover — named Michael Amacker — was actually secretly living at the home without the husband — Frank Reeves — knowing about it.

Police say that Michael Amacker had been living at the home undetected for some time, which is something they find hard to believe. "I've still yet to figure out how somebody can be staying in your house and you not know it," Mobile County Sheriff's Captain Paul Burch told Fox 10 News. "It's somewhat bizarre."

However, as the scene was cleared out, police officers got an idea of how long Amacker had been secretly living in the home due to something disturbing he left behind. There were several bottles of urine in the room where Amacker was reportedly staying. Captain Burch believes that these clues "indicated he had been in there for a little while."

Amacker, thought to be an invader, was shot in the leg and elbow. He fired back at Frank Reeves, Tracy Reeves' husband, shooting him in the chest. According to People, Amacker was charged heavily for his part in this. Not only did he receive a charge for attempted murder, but he was also charged with possession of a firearm with an altered ID and possession/receiving of a controlled substance.

That "controlled substance" is a big part of the mystery behind how this happened in the first place. When police showed up to the home, both Amacker and Tracy Reeves were high on methamphetamines. The drugs were a big part of their extramarital relationship.

Police believe that the drugs may have been part of the reason why Tracy Reeves told her husband that she didn't know Amacker. Despite it being a difficult situation she put herself in, being under the influence of drugs escalated the situation. That was a situation that Captain Burch seemed very familiar with.

"Another thing with meth," Captain Burch said, was "people that are on meth, not only do they have paranoia, they can't keep their mouth shut. So if there was some kind of diabolical plan, it is very possible Amacker has told some other people." The ordeal seemed to be a little hard to swallow for the neighbors who knew the couple.

"I just know that they've had some problems in the past," one neighbor stated. "Frank is a very calm person. He's very nice. He cuts his grass and does things around the house. There's nothing ever going on over there much, but he is a very good person."

The Reeves' daughter, who lives across the street, was also reportedly involved in the shooting, according to Captain Burch. "Mrs. Reeves called her daughter, who lived across the street, or in close proximity. Her and her husband came over and then held Amacker at gunpoint, who was trying to flee the scene, until deputies arrived," he said. But that's when the truth emerged.

"As we began digging further into the investigation, it was determined that Amacker actually had a relationship with Mrs. Reeves for some period of time," he continued. "That relationship involved methamphetamine, as well as a relationship. He had actually been staying in one of the rooms within the house for a period of time. She was supplying him with food."

Tracy Reeves must have been very sneaky — or perhaps her husband was just oblivious — to not know that Amacker was reportedly spending nights in the home. It's unclear as to whether or not having Frank Reeves shoot Amacker was completely due to confusion based on the drugs or if this was something that his wife had plotted ahead of time. No matter what, she's lucky neither of them were killed due to the misunderstanding.

It's an odd case for Captain Burch to investigate, but it's also an interesting story for those who feel entertained by love triangles and deception. It's hard to know how Tracy Reeves hid the relationship so well, and whether or not this was actually a murder-for-hire setup. Hopefully, as details settle, more will be discovered about what actually happened that night.
