Fans were concerned when Ryan Sutter shared a series of cryptic Instagram posts about his wife Trista Sutter in May 2024. With captions like "I want to be there for you. But I can’t" and "I really wish I could talk to you," some were worried that The Bachelorette alums were facing relationship issues, or worse — some pointed out that some of the posts made it sound like Trista had died.
Ryan recently spoke up about the posts on the June 17 episode of The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever with Chris Harrison, and revealed that if he had something super serious happening in his life, he wouldn't be posting about it on Instagram in that way.
"If there was something really, really bad happening in my life, I wouldn't be telling anyone," Ryan said during the podcast, adding that his "personal life stays pretty personal."
Instead, he's more likely to use Instagram to document what's happening in his life and how he's feeling at the time so he can look back at those memories later.
"I love looking back on my life and reflecting on my kids when they were younger, and the writing portion of it just reminds me of the emotional states I was in at those particular times," he explained.
In this case, Ryan posted on Instagram to show his wife how he was feeling while she was away.
"Trista wasn’t going to be able to have access to social media until she got finished with this experience she was on so I was gonna post these things knowing, like, the second she had access to it, she would look at it, and she could see, like, 'Here’s what happened while you were gone. Here’s how much we missed you, here’s how important you are to us,' all this sort of stuff," Ryan explained.

But it didn't really go as planned — "it just blew up in my face and backfired," he said, referring to the speculation the posts caused.
He also said that he shared the posts that he did because of the mood he was in at the time.
"I'll go months without a post, and then suddenly I'll get, like, in a mood, and I'll send something," he explained. He added that "It's been kind of a long year for us, moving and lots of things going on. So, whatever the culmination of all that happened, and I was in that sort of place, so I sent that out."
