Honesty is truly the best policy. One Michigan grandma has always lived her life by that principle and is being rewarded richly for it.
Dianne Gordon of White Lake Township, Michigan, walked almost three miles each way to work five days a week at the VC Fresh Marketplace. She did this regardless of the weather. On one of these walks, she decided to stop at a gas station for a snack and made a big discovery, a plastic bag containing nearly $15,000. She did not even think twice before turning it in.

“I was taught if it doesn’t belong to you, you don’t keep it,” Dianne explained. She turned in the money even though she could have bought herself a car and made her life significantly easier.
“It never really crossed her mind to do anything other than turn it over,” said White Lake Police Lieutenant Matthew Ivory.
The bag Dianne found contained not only money but wedding cards. It belonged to a newlywed couple and held the gifts from their big day. Stacy Connell, the wife of the police officer who took Dianne’s initial call, was so touched by her actions that she started a fundraising campaign for Dianne to get her a car.
“As a police officer’s wife, I typically hear the bad things, so this was obviously heartwarming. I was hoping we could help her get a car since she could have walked into any dealership and used that money,” Stacy explained.
Stacy’s campaign worked and has raised $71,000 so far. Dianne now has a green Jeep Compass and money to maintain it. The car will not only allow her to get to work each day but will also allow her to spend more time with her grandchildren. Dianne is beyond grateful.
“I never expected anything like this. I am overwhelmed. I was just doing what I was taught to do,” she said.
