Historic Tonya Harding Costume From Infamous Nancy Kerrigan Scandal Is Now Up For Auction

The costume figure skater Tonya Harding wore amid the infamous scandal involving Nancy Kerrigan is now up for auction. On January 6, 1994, Harding's rival, Kerrigan, was hit by a baton. Because of her injury, Kerrigan had to withdraw from the 1994 US Figure Skating Championships. The day after Kerrigan was attacked, Harding wore the red sequined dress that is now up for auction on Lelands. Harding went on to win the gold medal, but she was later accused of being involved in the attack that forced her rival to withdraw from the competition.

On the auction site, the description of the dress says, "The red sequin costume lacks a size or manufacturer tag, and is missing a small handful of beads around the neck."

The starting bid for the dress, which is said to come with a letter signed by Harding, is $3,000.

The letter reportedly states: "This red costume was worn during the following competitions — 1993 Nationals & the 1994 Nationals when I won the competition, also it was worn in the 1994 Olympic games."

As of June 28, 2024, the highest bid for the dress is $3,993.
