Jon Voight says he loves his previously estranged daughter, Angelina Jolie, but he doesn't agree with her politics. In a recent interview with Variety, Jon, 85, repeatedly complained about his daughter's political views. In particular, he's very critical of his daughter's support for Palestine. As a proud supporter of Donald Trump, Jon and Angelina have dealt with differing political views, and other issues in their relationship, for years. In 2017, Angelina told The Hollywood Reporter that she and her dad were able to reconcile, but they couldn't really talk about politics with each other.
At the time, Angelina told the outlet that she and her dad were able to get to know each other in a new way "through grandchildren" and were also able to relate to each other through art.
"We've had some difficulties, but through art we've been able to talk," she told the outlet at the time. "It's the common language."
Politics, on the other hand, definitely isn't that.
"We don't really talk politics well," she said at the time. "We talk art very well."
Similarly, in a more recent interview, Jon praised his daughter's work, but he has much less favorable views when it comes to her political beliefs. Speaking of The Outsiders, the musical produced by Angelina Jolie, Jon said, "it was amazing. Angie is amazing," he told Variety.
At other points during the Variety interview published on July 23, 2024, he critiqued his daughter because of some of the stances she has taken.

"I love my daughter. I don’t want to fight with my daughter," he insisted during the interview. He also implied that she was living in a bubble.
"Angie, I think she hasn’t been available to this information because in Hollywood people don’t share this kind of stuff," he told Variety. "They’re way off. They have no idea what’s going on. It’s a bubble."
(Jon is also an actor, and as the Variety article states, he lives in Beverly Hills).
At one point, he also called his daughter "ignorant" and "naive" and said it's "because she’s in the loop of the United Nations."
As the self-proclaimed "most outspoken supporter of Donald Trump in Hollywood," Jon has a hard time talking to Angelina about politics.
Jon also vocally supports Israel. Meanwhile, on November 1, 2023, Angelina took to Instagram to write: "Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children. Whole families are being murdered."
Angelina continued on Instagram: "While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians — children, women, families — are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived food, medicine and humanitarian aid against international law. By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes."
Jon has repeatedly criticized Angelina's stance on Palestine, telling Variety that "she has been exposed to propaganda."
However, he doesn't really talk to his daughter about politics despite his many complaints. He told Variety, "It’s hard for me to talk to her about this. She doesn’t really want to share this kind of stuff, because she’s of another mind about it."
Despite their political differences, Jon said he loves his daughter.
"I love my daughter — that’s No. 1," he told Variety. "I am happy when Angie is happy. When she’s having a tough time, I’m having a tough time. When she is down, I’m down."
