Throughout her time as the press secretary, Karoline Leavitt caught plenty of strays because of Donald Trump. But most of the time, she seemed happy to do so as a way to deliver information to the press and, in some cases, put members of the press in their place. Now, thanks to something she said herself about who Trump needs as her replacement, people think Leavitt all but admitted to just being a mouthpiece for the president during his second term.
In a clip posted on X, Leavitt is asked if she has advice for the person who replaces her as the press secretary. She makes a comment about Trump being the best person to be his own spokesperson. Some took that to mean Leavitt admitted that Trump used her as his mouthpiece. Others think Leavitt meant that her successor should be able to lie on a whim. Either way, it doesn’t look great.

In the clip on X, a reporter asks Leavitt, “Do you have advice for the next White House press secretary?” Instead of some one-liner about having a backbone when dealing with the press, or even a joke about working alongside Trump, Leavitt says something else. Take it how you will, but some have taken her comment to mean something far more interesting than what it seems to be on the surface.
“I will give my advice to whomever assumes the job,” she says. “I think it’s most important in this job to understand that President Trump is his own best spokesperson and we joke, Steven Cheung and me, that he is the true communications director and press secretary here at the White House.”
What was that? Did she just say Trump actually tells her exactly what to say at all times? OK, maybe not. But that was the takeaway for some people on X who replied to the post.
“Interesting, is she admitting she just repeated his words?” One person commented. “Stating he is his own best spokesperson.”
Another added, “Meaning no one can keep up with all the lies & delusions the President comes up with every day, & trying to present his positions means feeding the press a constant stream of misleading, inaccurate & often delusional information.”
Someone also joked, “He’ll probably step into the role if only to get more attention from the media.”
Her loyalty to Donald Trump has been criticized by some.
Leavitt also says in the clip that the person who takes over as press secretary has to believe in “the mission.” And, for some, her unyielding loyalty was less of a blessing and more like a curse for the now former repress secretary. In a Reddit thread about Leavitt and her support for Trump, users against MAGA agreed that, in some ways, Leavitt is even worse for them to listen to than Trump himself.
“She respects nobody and lives to suckup to DJT so she can keep her narco pulpit,” a Redditor commented on the post.
Another wrote, “Yeah she’s annoying because she’s the mouthpiece for the most loathsome administration we’ve ever had. Anyone who can keep that job is by definition a reprehensible monster.”
Someone from Fox News could actually take over her job.
Regardless of who takes over as press secretary, per Leavitt, they have to be supportive of Trump and what he stands for. So who better to do that than someone from Fox News? Apparently, someone from CNN. According to LiveNOW from Fox, conservative commentator Scott Jennings, who often appears on CNN, is a top pick.
No one connected to the White House confirmed that ahead of Leavitt’s exit, but it does make sense. Jennings also once worked for former President George W. Bush. Then again, Stephen Miller could slide into that role since he is already part of the Trump Administration. Either way, it seems that people believe a man will take over Leavitt’s converted role.
