Body Of Woman Missing For A Year Found in Suitcase After Police Clear Homeless Encampment

The body of a woman missing for nearly a year has been found inside of a large suitcase in Seattle. Washington State police discovered the remains of 37-year-old Shannon Marie Caslin Reeder, who had last been seen in 2023, in a homeless encampment in on September 27, 2024.

Authorities say that the woman had been living in the area when she disappeared in November 2023. A homicide investigation has now been launched to figure out what happened to Reeder.

According to People, the remains were given to a medical examiner as part of the investigation. In a press release, police said that "state and local workers and local non-profits were assisting encampment residents and clearing the site of
debris when the startling discovery was made."

The statement concluded by seeking information from anyone who had been in contact with Reeder within the last 12 months. "Anyone with information, that might be helpful in finding out what happened to Shannon, or who might have knowledge of who may have been involved in her untimely death and the callous disposal of her remains are asked to call Detective John Ford at 425-401-7742 or Detective Ivan Sergeev at 425- 401-7719."

Caitlyn Andrews, a childhood friend of Reeder's, had grown concerned when she never received a reply after wishing the deceased woman a happy birthday some months ago.

"We tried on Facebook, we tried on her cell phones," she said. "It’s hard to believe, it’s devastating." According to the friend, Reeder was also a mother. An investigation into her death is currently ongoing.
