Jamie Lee Curtis Deactivates Her Account on X (Formerly Twitter) After Donald Trump Reveals Elon Musk’s Role in Cabinet

Jamie Lee Curtis is taking a stance. The actress officially decided to leave X (formerly known as Twitter), the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. In an Instagram post shared on November 13, 2024, Jamie confirmed that she has deactivated her X account.

Jamie Lee Curtis shared a screenshot that confirmed her X account has been deactivated. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,” the Freaky Friday actress captioned her Instagram post. “Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.”

Though she did not share any additional details about her decision to leave the platform, she is not the only public figure to announce her departure after recent events. Former CNN anchor Don Lemon also announced his decision to leave the platform on November 13.

In a statement shared on X, Don wrote, “I’ve loved connecting with all of you on X, but it’s time for me to leave the platform.” From his perspective, Twitter/X was once “a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency, and free speech.” However, he thinks that has changed.

“I now feel it does not serve that purpose,” Don explained. He added that X’s new terms of service also had an impact on his decision to say goodbye to the platform.

“Starting this Friday, November 15, X is implementing new terms of service, which among other things states that ‘All disputes … be brought exclusively in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts located in Tarrant County, Texas…,'” Don wrote in the statement.

Citing The Washington Post, he explained why this change feels problematic: “As The Washington Post recently reported on X’s decision to change the terms, this ‘ensures that such lawsuits will be heard in courthouses that are a hub for conservatives, which experts say could make it easier for X to shield itself from litigation and punish critics.'”

On the same day that Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Lemon shared why they’re leaving X, a popular news outlet also released a statement about how it will no longer be promoting articles via its official editorial accounts on X.

In a statement, The Guardian explained, “We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.”

“The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse,” the statement continued.

These announcements all come a day after Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk would lead what the president-elect is calling “the Department of Government Efficiency.” Musk will run the department alongside former presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy. Per CNN, Trump said the duo will “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government.”

On November 12, Elon claimed that “all actions of the Department of Government Efficiency will be posted online for maximum transparency.”

“We will also have a leaderboard for most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars,” he added. “This will be both extremely tragic and extremely entertaining.”
