President Donald Trump has altered the White House in a lot of different ways during his second term. While those in the Trump administration act like they love what he’s done with the place (or at least don’t really care), critics online are often disgusted when his latest transformations are unveiled.
Most recently, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino shared a video of what the Oval Office looks like as of July 21. And people hate it.
Obviously, Trump has a penchant for gold.

And it really, really shows. Scavino’s walk-through gave people a pretty comprehensive look at Trump’s decorating efforts. What’s immediate obvious is that there seems to be gold embellishments all over the space. Like, everywhere.
Door frames are adorned with gold accents, as are the walls. It’s definitely not minimalistic by any means, especially because the walls are also decorated with numerous presidential portraits.
He also has a wide array of items, such as sculptures and historical items, on display now.
And the comments were not kind.

“looks like absolute s—,” one critic wrote in response to Scavino’s post. Someone else jokingly wrote, “Think it needs more gold. Doesn’t look like there’s enough fake gold. If you could add some more gold.”
Even though there are a lot of critics who think it’s tacky and hideous, they still think it suits Trump. A third critic added, “Trashy and vulgar is the perfect representation of the orange depraved slob currently occupying it.”
“It doesn’t reflect the seriousness of the office or the essence of America,” a fourth critic argued. “It’s the product of an offensive, self-centered, uncaring, disordered, harsh, bullying mind.”
People also naturally questioned Trump’s priorities.

With everything going on in the country and the world, you’d think decorating the White House would be the least of Trump’s concerns. However, given how often he has talked about his reflecting pool project, his ballroom initiative, and other efforts to transform the White House, that’s clearly not the case.
One of Trump’s prominent critics, California Governor Gavin Newsom, called him out for this. Or, at least, his press team did. “Gas prices are up 36%,” Newsom’s press office wrote on X. “But at least the Oval Office got its tacky gold makeover.”
Some of the people who shared the same concerns were not even Trump critics, per se. They claimed to people who once voted for him and supported him, only to not feel prioritized by this administration. They’re struggling; meanwhile, the Oval Office is decked out in gold.
“Americans are suffering terribly, they were supposed to be NUMBER ONE,” another person commented. Several commenters also mentioned the Iran war and questioned why Scavino felt it was appropriate to brag about Trump’s White House renovations. “Really? You’re marveling at THE GOLD IN THE OVAL OFFICE?!” someone questioned.
Not everyone hated it, though. There are some people who think the changes to the Oval Office just reflect Trump’s personal taste, and they don’t have a huge problem with that. “If (Trump) likes it, that’s what counts,” one commenter argued.
