Image From Google Street View May Have Helped Police Solve A Murder Case

If you’ve ever endeavored to be a career criminal, the time to successfully achieve that goal might have passed already. Technological advancements have come too far. Far too much of our lives is documented or recorded these days.

It’s getting harder and harder to commit a crime and get away with it. A man and woman in Spain learned this recently when Google Street View appears to have captured one of them loading the remains of a dead man into the trunk of a car.

Since then, Spanish police have arrested two people in the case of a missing man. Spanish National Police confirmed that they’d arrested a man and woman in the province of Soria on November 12, 2024. The arrests came after a report from the relative of the missing man.

The relative reported the man, a Cuban national who has not been named publicly, had been missing since November 2023. The relative contacted authorities after he began receiving suspicious messages from him. The messages, according to a statement from police, claimed that he’d met a girl, was leaving Soria, and was going to get rid of his phone. These raised alarms for the relative, who believed the messages came from someone else.

In November 2024, police traveled to two different towns in Soria to arrest a woman, the missing man’s partner, and another man — the woman’s current partner.

They believe they are the perpetrators of “illegal detention aggravated by failure to provide information on the whereabouts of the missing person,” police explained in the press release, translated from Spanish to English.

The two are accused of killing and dismembering the missing Cuban man, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.

Police say searches of both of the suspects’ homes provided evidence relevant to the investigation. They also found a vehicle that may have been used during the crime. Police attribute the image from Google Street View as one of the clues that helped “solve the crime.”

Police also confirmed that the found a “human torso in an advanced state of decomposition” buried in a cemetery in a town in Soria on December 11. It could possibly be the remains of the missing man, but the remains have yet to be identified. Authorities released video of them exhuming the torso on X.

October 2023 was first time in 15 years a Google car had recorded the streets of Tajueco, in Soria, according to the BBC.
