Alex Hodges is a an influencer, a podcaster, and a woman who happens to be sharing images of her child online. Any one of those titles could welcome critique and ridicule into her life. We all know there is something particularly fraught about mothering in the public eye.
Even posting snapshots of you and your child can lead to an onslaught of critique. That has certainly been the case for Hodges, who people have accused of “abusing her child” because she doesn’t seem to be supporting her baby’s head properly while drinking a glass of wine.

Recently, Hodges posted a carousel of herself and her 3-month-old daughter, Tate. In one of the images, she’s holding Tate in the crook of her arm and a glass of wine in the same hand. What could have been celebrated as a mom multitasking was instead met with some criticism.
“Can you support your baby’s head properly and stop abusing her please?” one user wrote. “It’s literally so disturbing.”

Others took issue with the wine. “It’s almost like she had a baby for the sake of posting on social media,” another user wrote. “It’s also weird that she would want to take a picture with alcohol in her hand while holding her baby.”
On an entirely different platform, someone else wrote: “Why do they love multitasking with a baby in hand???? It’s so annoying!”
Thankfully, there were more than a few people who came to her defense.
“This wins the award for internet ridiculousness,” another user wrote in response. “That baby is FINE. The level of drama associated with calling this ‘abuse’ has me rolling. I don’t even have to look at your account to know you don’t have children. Hopefully everything in your life isn’t this dramatic.”
“She’s laying on her moms entire arm for support!” another user explained. “I used to lay my children like that on me. The baby’s neck is fine! Why do people who don’t have children, or even those who have children think they know what’s best for other mothers!”
Another Instagrammer noted that Tate is 3 months old, and doesn’t require the same type of support she did when she was a newborn. “They clearly didn’t look at all the pictures because there’s a picture with the baby sitting up holding her own head up. People need to get some business.”
We couldn’t agree more.
