If you had any doubts about Sydney Sweeney’s political leanings, her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon might clear some things up. At least, that’s what people online think — not because of what she said, but because of how she looked. Her tight red dress and blonde bob reminded many people on social media of conservative newscasters and women in the Trump family. The general consensus was that Sydney has never looked more Republican, and some people are convinced that was intentional.
As a refresher, after Sydney’s American Eagle jean ad controversy, multiple outlets reported that the actress registered as a Republican voter in Florida in 2024. Because of all the backlash surrounding the ad campaign, conservatives started professing their love for Sydney. When President Donald Trump praised her for the ad, she called it “surreal.”
And now, her look is “giving Trump’s next wife.”
When Sydney appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, people on social media criticized her outfit, but also noted that it kind of suits her. “wow she really speedran that republican look,” one person commented on YouTube. Another person wrote, “Trying out that Fox News look I see.”
Someone who reacted to a clip from the show shared via Instagram added, “She looks so republican now 😂.” On TikTok, content creator Blakely Thornton made the argument that Sydney and her team must’ve done this on purpose because there’s no way she just so happened to choose an outfit that screams MAGA.

Blakely said in a video that Sydney and her team are clearly “committed to the bit” at this point. He said, “They’re doing this s— on purpose. Why else would you go on a late-night talk show looking like Effie Trinket’s lost niece? The stiffest wig this side of the Mississippi unless you want to get read for filth.” Blakey noted that Sydney was clearly promoting her movie, The Housemaid, but her outfit suggested otherwise. “The role you should really be preparing for is Trump wife No. 4,” Blakely joked. “Mrs. Bezos No. 3.” In response, someone else wrote, “It’s giving Trump’s next wife fr.”
Sydney’s hairstylist allegedly responded to the clip.
According to screenshots shared by Blakely, Sydney’s hairstylist Glen “Coco” Oropeza allegedly wrote back with, “Wasn’t a wig but you can’t get my girl’s name out of your mouth. You’re obsessed.”
In another comment, the hairstylist allegedly added, “Stiff where? You’re doing a lot … Take a breath, diva. You can keep trying to spin a narrative, but we all know you just need click bait cuz your content is TIRED. If you need attention, just say that. Imagine caring this much about a hairstyle you didn’t create and a woman who doesn’t know you exist. Goodnight.”
Conservatives also weighed in.
Katrina Campins, a Fox Business host, said Sydney looks hotter than ever. She also suggested that people are just mad that Sydney is so hot, even though people generally didn’t really have an issue with the actress prior to the American Eagle controversy. “She’s getting hotter, and they’re so jealous, right? They’re like, ‘She’s so Republican,’ she gets hotter by the minute, right?” Katrina said on Jesse Watters Primetime. Apparently, according to Jesse, Sydney’s new look is not an intentional stylistic choice but a byproduct of (allegedly) voting Republican.
Jesse, who previously made a weird comment about Sydney marrying Trump’s son Barron, said, “When you register Republican, you just get hotter.”
