George Clooney Says He Won’t Kiss Costars Anymore

It seems like George Clooney has officially retired from kissing scenes. During a recent interview with the Daily Mail, the 64-year-old actor revealed that he’s done “kissing girls” in movies. He actually made the decision several years ago and had a conversation with his wife, Amal Clooney, 47, about it.

Some fans took the conversation to mean that his wife played a significant role in this decision, while others suspected that the decision had more to do with his age. Regardless of what his exact motivation is, it sounds like he’s definitely over on-screen romances at this point.

He said he talked to his wife when he turned 60.

At that point, he reflected on aging and how it might impact him and his family in the future. “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife,” he told the Daily Mail. “I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.'”

He also told the publication that growing older means he’s not interested in making out with his costars on screen. “I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did: ‘OK, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,'” he revealed.

It’s not the first time he’s talked about resigning from romance roles.

Though he only recently revealed that he’s no longer “kissing girls” in movies, he previously asserted that he felt like his time starring in romantic movies had come to a close. In March, during a 60 Minutes appearance, George said, “Look, I’m 63 years old. I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.” Fair enough.

Online, people had mixed reactions to George’s recent Daily Mail interview. On one hand, people could understand his preferences. “It’s a choice by him regarding his career path and the roles he no longer is interested in doing as a man in his 60s,” one person wrote on Reddit. Some people, however, took issue with his use of the word “girls” when he is 64 years old. “Sir, you are over 60,” someone else wrote. “I sure hope you are not kissing ‘girls.'”

Others argued that that’s precisely the point — that he’s too old for roles like that now. “Everyone criticizing him saying ‘he’s too old to kiss girls anyway!’ Babes you’re agreeing with him that’s exactly what he’s saying,” another person wrote in his defense.
