Trump Criticizes Super Bowl Halftime Show & Says He’s Too ‘Anti-Them’ To Attend

In 2025, President Donald Trump became the first sitting United States president to attend the Super Bowl, but you won’t see him there this year. When speaking to the New York Post, Trump made it very clear that he’s not attending. He also criticized the artists who will be performing at Super Bowl LX on February 8. Green Day is performing at the opening ceremony, while Bad Bunny is headlining the halftime show.

Trump is not a fan.

He told the New York Post that he does not approve of the artists invited to perform at the sporting event. “I’m anti-them,” Trump told the publication. “I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.” The feeling seems to be mutual, as both Green Day and Bad Bunny have spoken out against Trump before.

Per The Independent, in March 2025, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong addressed the crowd at a concert with, “Don’t you want politicians to shut the f— up? Don’t you want Elon Musk to shut the f— up? Don’t you want Donald Trump to shut the f— up?” During performances, the band has also changed its lyrics to “American Idiot,” going from “I’m not part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda.”

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny has been vocal about opposing Trump’s anti-immigration policies. He also criticized Trump’s hurricane response in Puerto Rico, where he’s from. Previously, Trump criticized the decision to have Bad Bunny headline the halftime show but also claimed that he had never heard of him before. “I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s, like, crazy,” Trump previously said on Newsmax. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Although Trump is “anti-them,” that’s not the reason he won’t attend.

Attending the Super Bowl as a sitting president is unusual. But according to Trump, the reason he’s not going this year is simple: Santa Clara, California is too far away. “It’s just too far away,” Trump told the New York Post. “I would. I’ve [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me. I would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter.”

So, allegedly, the fact that Bad Bunny and Green Day don’t like him is not what’s stopping him from going. But his beef with random musicians is nothing new. After attending the Super Bowl in New Orleans last year, Trump took to social media to criticize Taylor Swift. It would be a stretch to even call it a feud, given that it’s largely one-sided. For some reason, after the game, he mocked Swift on Truth Social, writing, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
