What to Know
Nicki Minaj recently took to social media to boast that President Donald Trump has made it easier for her to become a United States citizen after she described herself as his “number one fan.” On Wednesday, January 28, Nicki shared a photo of her new Trump Gold Card, which is described as “a visa based upon an individual’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States” on its website. The card normally costs $15,000 in processing fees, then requires “a $1 million gift.” Meanwhile, Nicki claims she got one for free.
The rapper’s recent social media activity has made it pretty obvious that she’s MAGA now. But just in case it wasn’t already clear, Nicki held hands with the president at an event that same day and said, “I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change.”
Nicki said she’s working on becoming a citizen.
In 2018, Nicki wrote in a Facebook post that she “came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old.” When she announced that she received the Trump Gold Card, she initially just shared a photo of it on X and wrote, “Welp…” In a follow-up post, she added, “Residency? Residency? The cope is coping. 😅 Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President. Thanks to the petition. 📋 I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment. Gold Trump card free of charge.”

The White House described it a bit differently.
Some people were on social media were surprised that the Trump Gold Card was an actual physical card, but a White House spokesman told The Hill that the card is just a “memento,” which is… interesting. Many people agreed that Nicki’s new card was super embarrassing and definitely not the flex that she thought it was. “Welp indeed,” one person wrote in response. Another person said, “How the f— is this legal? This administration constantly finds new ways to disgust me.”
But some could actually understand her, at least a little bit. “Aahaa!! So THAT’s what it has been about,” someone wrote on X, referring to Nicki’s recent (and surprising) obsession with the MAGA movement.
But Nicki doesn’t care what people think.
She seems to know that her MAGA views aren’t exactly popular among many of her fans. But at the recent event she appeared at alongside Trump, she said the hate just makes her love the president more. “The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all,” she said. “It actually motivates me to support him more.”
