Lauren Sánchez’s Baby Comment Was So Wild Her Publicist Had to Do Damage Control

A comment Lauren Sánchez made during a recently published interview is raising eyebrows. Apparently, Lauren, 56, loves having children. When speaking to The New York Times, she seemed super enthusiastic about expanding her family. She and her billionaire husband, Jeff Bezos, 62, tied the knot in June 2025, and they both have children from previous relationships. During the recent interview, Lauren made it sound like they’re ready to welcome another child—an implication that prompted a spokesperson to speak up about the couple’s future plans.

Lauren told the publication that she “would have another (child) tomorrow.”

Amy Chozick, the reporter who wrote the New York Times profile about Lauren, said Lauren has repeatedly urged her to have another child. In the piece, Lauren is quoted as saying, “Do it! I would have another one tomorrow. Tomorrow.” This prompted the reporter to ask Lauren if she and Jeff have any plans to welcome another child together.

Lauren simply repeated, “I would have a baby tomorrow,” and she had “a coy smile” on her face when she said it. Online, some people took this to mean that she meant she would have another baby if she could, hypothetically. Others, however, were more critical (and also confused by Lauren’s comments).

On Reddit, some critics mocked the couple after reading what Lauren said. “Babe, let’s pay someone to have a kid for us so we can roll our 75- and 81-year-old asses up to our sad kid’s high school graduation,” one critic wrote. Someone else said, “Nothing like turning 70 at their grade 8 graduation.”

A spokesperson ended up stepping in to clarify.

Apparently, Lauren’s comments were too messy and ambiguous. The New York Times reported that a spokesperson for Lauren later reached out and made it clear that she is not actually having a child. The spokesperson, however, did not appear to elaborate on whether she meant right now or ever, so time will tell, it seems.

Lauren is mom to son Nikko, 25, whom she welcomed in 2001 with ex-boyfriend Tony Gonzalez, and son Evan, 19, and daughter Ella, 18, whom she welcomed with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell. Meanwhile, Jeff shares four children with his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott. Jeff and MacKenzie have worked hard to keep their kids out of the spotlight. Lauren, in contrast, has spoken about her kids publicly on multiple occasions.

When reflecting on their very high-profile (and controversial) wedding, Lauren suggested that their kids helped make the celebration extra special. She previously told Extra, “My daughter gave a speech during the ceremony, this was before we said our vows, and [I] started bawling. Like, I could not- I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh’ right before the pictures.'”

Her future plans remain unclear, but she does not appear to be getting divorced.

Even with the clarification from her spokesperson, Lauren’s baby comments remain pretty ambiguous. However, given that she said she would have a baby with Jeff “tomorrow,” she is probably not planning on divorcing him. In case you missed it, the couple recently sparked divorce rumors (yes, already) because of an awkward interaction at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. A source later told Rob Shuter that there’s real “tension” between the couple now that the excitement from their wedding has worn off.

But during her interview with The New York Times, Lauren called Jeff her best friend. “I talk about everything with him. Everything!” she said. “Jeff is my best friend, and I don’t say that lightly.”
