Someone really needs to tell Donald Trump to leave the jokes to the professionals. He has referred to Karoline Leavitt‘s White House Exit multiple times as a way for her to “choose” her kids and her family over him, and it’s getting a little tired at this point. Maybe Trump means it as a joke every time he says it, in an attempt to get laughs from reporters in the room wherever he is. But is it really all that funny for a grown, elderly man to joke that his 20-something employee slighted him over leaving her job to spend time with her young children?
It’s not like Leavitt is really going far when she leaves the White House. She will still work for Maga Inc and for some Trump supporters, that’s enough for them. Her biggest issue was apparently the lack of time she was able to have for her personal life. In leaving her role as press secretary, Leavitt gets more time with her family. Which, according to Trump, she chose over him. Har har har.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Trump speaks to a crowd and explains once again that Leavitt is leaving her role as press secretary to focus on her family. She welcomed her second child in May 2026 and returned to work in June 2026. In August 2026, she announced plans to step down from her role.
“Our press secretary and mother of two, well she decided she loved her children more than she loved Donald Trump, I’m very upset about this,” Trump says. And, it should be noted, no one is heard laughing as he continues. “She has to go home and spend time with her children. That does happen on occasion with some people, when they love their children. And she does.”
Someone commented, “Because Trump could never imagine loving a kid or anything, he is not capable.”
“Who is surprised by this comment?” Another person wrote. “I’d like you to name one person that has left his administration, and not felt the wrath of that big flipping mouth! He has no loyalty to anyone but himself! Do I feel sorry for Ms. Leavitt, not at all!”
He was slammed as “classless” after his comments.
When the same clip of Trump was shared on Reddit, users criticized Trump for his comments, even if he was only trying to tell an off-putting joke. The subtext is that people have theorized that Trump is not happy with Leavitt going on maternity leave, let alone leaving the White House completely. So there are some who believe Trump may have been handing out microaggressions disguised as harmless jokes about Leavitt.
A Redditor commented on the post with, “Trump is classless and stupid.”
“If you listen he just told us that she resigned because he left her on that decoy plane AFTER she just had a baby,” someone else wrote.
Karoline Leavitt isn’t going far when it comes to MAGA and the White House.
Even though millions of Americans won’t see Leavitt skirt questions from the press and insult others during White House briefings, she won’t be far. According to USA Today, Leavitt is going to continue her work for Trump with his super PAC organization that was formed in support of Trump ahead of his second term in office.
So maybe Trump was wrong and Leavitt loves her kids as much as she loves Trump.
