Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s move back to the UK after making a big deal about relocating to the United States surprised many. Others weren’t as shocked by their return to the UK after some Netflix deals and Meghan’s As Ever brand launch. Still, questions remain about how the family of four is doing as they adjust to a different kind of life across the pond.
In an interview with Hello!, Harry shared some insight into how his and Meghan’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are doing now that school has started for the 2026-2027 school year in the UK. Although Harry and Meghan, along with their children, live in a home outside of royal grounds, they are still just as recognizable as ever, and the general public is still plenty curious about what their plans are now.

According to Newsweek, one reason for the family’s move from California back to the UK was so Harry could work more closely with WellChild and the Invictus Games, both of which he is a huge part of. Per Elle, an insider shared that the move may not be permanent and that Harry and Meghan do still own their home in California.
However, the move itself was a surprise to many. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the bold decision to step away from their duties as working members of the royal family in 2020, not long after Archie was born. Then, they welcomed Lilibet, and it seemed like they had plans to stay put in the U.S. For now, though, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Prince Harry shared how his kids are adjusting to life across the pond.
When Harry spoke with Hello!, he admitted that, the morning he spoke to the outlet, both kids were having a rough go at it. Maybe it was because it was a Monday morning, or maybe the children are still adjusting to a totally new life, and new school, in a new country. But, he admitted at the time, he had to share some words of wisdom to cheer them up.
“At breakfast this morning, they had a bit of Monday morning blues,” he told the outlet at a WellChild event. “There’s always something like Sunday night blues or boarding school…when you’ve been away, or before you go to school.” He added, “I decided, ‘you know what? You’re being a little bit tricky, so I’m going to tell you exactly what I’m doing tonight.’ And they were genuinely fascinated and asking all sorts of questions. So, like with all of my work and their mum’s work as well, whatever we can do to try to instill some of that awareness, I think is absolutely crucial.”
A few days before that, Harry spoke with Hello! a separate time to share how the first two weeks back in the UK had gone for him and his family. At the time, he said that things had been “eventful,” but that they were all getting into their routines of work and school. He also admitted that he was happy to be back on “British soil.”

Although Harry admitted to minor difficulties Archie and Lilibet face as transplants in the UK, none of it seems especially dramatic. Still, those who follow Harry and Meghan out of curiosity rather than support continue to speculate on why they decided to move back to the UK. In a Reddit post, a user speculated there’s more to the story than either Meghan or Harry has let on.
“I would be very surprised if it’s not to save her marriage and for grifting/financial gain,” a user commented…I feel like ‘work’ and children’s education could easily just have been done in the U.S. on Meghan’s terms. Clearly something has gone wrong.”
Another suggested, “I think Harry was miserable in CA, their finances are on the downturn, and they need royal adjacency to bump that up.”
