One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is getting to spend time with my family. There's nothing quite like being able to relax by the fireplace, a cup of hot chocolate in hand as I chat with my folks. It's the one time of year everyone seems to appreciate being together!
This holiday season, two little 10-year-old girls Gracie and Audrey have something more to be thankful for. The identical twin sisters were just reunited after being separated their whole lives.
Both girls were adopted by separate American families. Gracie became part of the Rainsberry family, and now lives in Washington. Audrey was adopted by the Doerings, who are in Wisconsin.
For Christmas, Audrey's mom wanted to get her a special, meaningful present: a copy of her "Finding Ad" — the ad in Chinese newspapers that let the public know which babies have been adopted.
She hired someone to find it, but what he brought to them in addition to the ad was quite spectacular: it was a photo of Audrey at just a few months old — and next to her was another little girl, who looked exactly like her.
Audrey's mother realized that this was, in fact, her daughter's twin.
Within just a few days, the Doerings were able to get in contact with Gracie's family, who also had no clue that their daughter was a twin. The girls met via video chat, and it quickly became obvious that there was no doubt: these two were most definitely related!
Now, the girls and their families are trying to take the next step, and plan to meet in person.
