It's not easy being a teacher: You are responsible for forming the minds and education of young people. As they grow into adults, they absorb every piece of information they read or hear. Teaching is an important job, and many people underestimate its value and difficulty.
This is exactly what Oklahoma teacher Shawn Sheehan believes, and he thinks that his paycheck and the paychecks of all teachers in the state don't reflect that.
He says that over the past six years of being an educator, his salary has been slowly decreasing, despite being named Teacher of the Year.
He also says that, now that his pay has hit such a low point, he is unable to live comfortably, His wife just gave birth to their daughter, and he feels that he needs to choose between caring for her, paying off his loans, and saving for retirement, among other necessities.
That's why, this year, Sheehan decided to take a stand and write a letter to "Santa" asking for a pay raise.
In an online post, the frustrated teacher explains why he needs a raise, and why he deserves one.
