She Says She’s ‘Too Fat’ To Wear A Seat Belt, Then Cop Writes Her A Ticket

Janette Colantonio knew exactly why she was getting pulled over by a police officer. She'd been breaking the law for months by avoiding wearing her seat belt… because it no longer fit her.

"I can't wear it because I'm too fat," she remembers thinking. "I laughed it off, but when I got home I was like, 'I can't buckle my seat belt. I'm 30 years old. It has to stop. I have to take control of my life.'"

Colantonio weighed 408 pounds. But it was that single traffic ticket that changed her life. She decided to make some massive changes in her life. Colantonio had grown accustomed to eating more than five unhealthy meals a day, sometimes even two dinners.

She swapped those dishes with healthy alternatives. She and her husband were well on their way to a total transformation. Two years after the ticket, Colantonio lost 250 pounds by changing her diet and adding exercise to her routine.

Colantonio would walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day, eat a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal, a boiled egg and fruit, and would stop eating carbs after 2 p.m.

Today she looks like a completely different person.

"They don't just say, 'You have a beautiful face anymore,'" she says. "[Now] they'll just say, 'You're beautiful,' without the add-on. You know, that means a lot."
