Casper Might Look Like Any Other Dog, But When He Puts On His Vest He Becomes Hospital Staff

Casper is a full-time employee of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He has an official hospital badge, he wears a uniform, and he's on-call — but he's not a doctor.

The thing that sets Casper apart from other hospital employees? Well, he has four legs, a furry coat, and a leash. That's right, Casper is a dog.

Just because he's a dog doesn't mean Casper doesn't take his job seriously. When he puts on his work vest, he knows it's time to get down to business.

Four times a week, Casper dons his green vest and turns into a different dog. "He knows he has a job to do," his owner explains, "and he does it really well."

Casper works directly with children at the hospital as a therapy dog. His owner describes him as a "sponge," because he can soak in anyone's emotions and respond to them accordingly. He can tell if a patient is anxious or in pain, and then he tries to take that negativity from them.

After he leaves a patient's room, his owner explains, Casper usually needs a moment to decompress. Therapy is a hard job, even for a dog.

When Casper goes home for the day, he takes off his vest and becomes just another dog again. He plays outside, eats dog treats, and carries his toys around. However, when the morning rolls around again, Casper is ready to take on more work.
