Bus Driver Hears Woman Call For Help And Sees Car On Fire, Then Realizes Baby Is Trapped Inside

It was a night like any other on the road for bus driver Vincent Hopkins, but that was about to change in an instant.

"Not on my route," the seasoned bus driver declared in the video posted on January 17, 2016, below. He was referring to the strange experience he had, while doing his job, that involved a fire, a family, and a little bravery.

Vincent was dropping off and picking up passengers on his route in Madison, Wisconsin, when he spotted something startling on the road.

"There was a car that pulled up and it was smoking! The lady asked for help. I went over to her and I could immediately smell the fire," he explained.

Vincent continued, "Her interior door wouldn't open from the inside, so I opened it from the outside for her. There was another lady on the inside of the car. I woke her up. And there was an infant in the back."

The bus driver led the women and baby back to his vehicle, where he called dispatch. Vincent grabbed a fire extinguisher from the inside of the bus and made his way back to the car. He tried his best to calm the flames and was able to put out the fire.

Unfortunately, the tricky flames rose again, despite Vincent's best efforts. Luckily, by the time he was able to empty out the fire extinguisher on the car once more, the fire department had arrived at the scene.

Vincent spoke humble words about that night. He said, "I don't think I'm a hero. That's everyday operations. You know, I appreciate it, but it's everyday operations. It's part of the job. You know, we're out here in the streets to serve the public, and we've got to keep our eyes open."
