Chippewa Falls High School seniors Steven Weiss and Maddie Newton have been a couple for over a year. So you can imagine Maddie's fright when she saw her boyfriend being arrested right outside school.
“Then he said he had a warrant in Bloomer and then he took them and put them in cuffs,” Maddie recalled in the video below.
Before the arrest, the two had been in school when Steven said he was going to take her out to lunch.
He went to his car and made to pull out of the parking lot — but he did it a little too fast.
It was an offense that Steven had committed one too many times.
“I had to remind him a couple times about his parking lot etiquette and driving through that," said Resource officer Joe Nelson, who worked at the school.
As such, Steven was placed under arrest by Officer Nelson, and put into the back of his squad car.
Distressed, Maddie went to see him, and that's when Officer Nelson said there was one way that Steven could be let out of custody.
And it all clicked for the senior at that point.
She knew that it was all just one big ruse!
But why all the shock and fanfare?
