Baby Was Just 2 Pounds At Birth. 23 Years Later, Nurse Says ‘Oh My Goodness!’ When She Sees Her

Tori Madison was born at the Norton Women's and Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. If you take a look at Tori, you would think she was just like any other young woman. Shockingly, Tori was born 23 years ago at just 27 weeks gestation, weighing only 2 lbs., 3 oz.

“We knew it was always touch and go in the very beginning,” said Charlotte Ispan, the hospital's chief administration officer. Back then, though, Charlotte was the nurse who oversaw Tori's care after her birth.

Tori spent 100 days in the NICU at the hospital.

“Tori did test all the limits around technology and ventilator therapy and all those things,” Charlotte said.

Today, though, Tori is a healthy young woman. On her birthday, she decided to go visit the hospital and the nurses who did so much to help her survive when she needed it most.

Little did she know that they were already waiting for her.

Tori reunited with the nurses at the Norton Women's and Children's Hospital, and was able to see the NICU where babies fight to live just like she did more than two decades ago.

She also went to inform them that their selfless care influenced her life and her career goals.

“I've seen pictures of how small I was, but seeing it in person is a totally different thing,” Tori said. “I'm just really thankful for all the nurses that took care of me. I think I really feel a strong connection to being an NICU nurse.”
