Every time I step out into nature, I'm surprised once again by how incredible it is. It seems as I get on in years, I'm more and more amazed at how the world keeps on turning, and the critters and creatures out in the wild keep living their lives.
There are more creatures out there than we can really ever imagine. There are species that have yet to be discovered, as well as rare, amazing creatures that are hiding under rocks, in the deep sea, and in the sky. There is still so much to discover in this world!
This creature has already been identified by biologists, but not many of us civilians know that it exists. That's a darn shame, because it's so cool! Have you ever before heard of a hummingbird moth?
The hummingbird hawk moth has a striking resemblance to everyone's favorite tiny bird, but it's actually a large insect. This moth is a powerful flier, with quickly-moving wings that make it hover very much like a hummingbird. You might even be fooled into thinking that this little creature is in fact a bird if you ever ran into one in the eastern hemisphere, where it is found. However, the long tongue and antennae are clear indicators that this amazing creature of flight is, in fact, an insect.
Have you ever seen one of these hummingbird hawk moths, or any other creature like it?
