As the weather gets warmer, more and more incidents involving children and pets left in hot cars become more frequent. We often underestimate how serious the situation can be, and many of us believe that leaving them for even just a few minutes, with the window cracked open, is okay.
But the truth is that it can take as little as two minutes for the heat to permanently injure a child.
A mother immediately called 911 when she accidentally locked her baby inside her car, and luckily that baby sustained no injuries. As the mother was the cause of the mishap, she was able to manage the situation right away.
But if you find a baby or pet alone in a hot car and the car doors are locked, you need to know your rights before acting. Authorities across several states ask that you waste no time in attempting to rescue them before it's too late, but they encourage citizens to protect themselves.
Such a way would be to use one's phone to record the situation and document the weather. The owner of the car can always find you liable for damage to the car, especially if you break the windows, and it's in your best interest to keep proof that you broke the windows for a good reason.
The bottom line: know your state's laws regarding this matter before the hot weather rolls in!
Please SHARE to remind parents and pet owners that leaving their children and animals in a locked hot car is against the law!
