Amy Burch has had a rough couple of years. She has been a young, single mother to her toddler Adeline in Kansas City, Missouri, and has no home of her own.
That's when she found Sheffield Place, a homeless shelter that helps rehabilitate young women and single mothers if they're willing to work hard and turn their lives around.
So for nearly four months, Amy waited to get accepted into Sheffield Place's program that offers benefits for those that work hard.
"The women that go through our program and do well and have jobs and are ready to move on can come live here for adjusted rent," Kelly Welch, executive director of Sheffield Place, explained.
Amy knew what she had to do. Using Adeline as inspiration, she worked hard to accomplish every goal set forth by the program.
"I literally went into the shelter with the goal of a house," Amy said.
And it turns out that her hard work totally paid off.
Sheffield Place gifted Amy a home of her own, and would cover 70% of the house's payments, leaving Amy with bills generously adjusted to her income.
When Amy realized what she had done for her and her daughter, she "had to hold the tears back."
She was also quick to remind any other struggling mothers out there to never give up and remember everything worth fighting for. You can't help but be inspired by her tenacity and dedication to her daughter.
