There’s nothing quite as scary when your child has an unexpected health scare.
This video posted by Wonderbot shares the story of an 8-year-old girl who was told by her classmates that she looked pregnant and how her parents rushed her to the doctor for an ultrasound to see what was wrong.
Leah and her husband of Sydney, Australia, had always known that their daughter Jada was tinier in stature than most 8-year-olds, but in all other respects, she seemed like any other average child, so they simply continued to live life normally.
It was when other kids at Jada’s school noticed that her abdomen was distended and started telling her that she looked pregnant that things started to shift for the family. Leah decided just to be safe that they would take their daughter in for a checkup.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Jada was sent for an ultrasound, where it was discovered that she had developed ascites, which is when fluids develop in the abdomen, which explained the distended stomach.
Soon after, Jada was sent to the hospital to meet with a cardiologist and gastroenterologist so they could conduct tests to find out if her heart and liver had been affected by her health condition.

The tests came back and showed that Jada’s heart had been greatly affected, and she was admitted to the hospital so they could drain 5 liters of fluid from her stomach.
Jada was eventually diagnosed with something called restrictive cardiomyopathy. It’s when the chambers of the heart become stiff over time, making it difficult for blood to flow to the heart vessel.
