Amanda Bynes Placed In 72-Hour Psychiatric Hold After Being Found Wandering Naked

Actress Amanda Bynes has been placed in a 72-hour psychiatric hold after being found naked in the streets.

TMZ reported that Amanda was spotted in downtown Los Angeles without her clothes on early in the morning of March 19, 2023. Amanda reportedly flagged down a passerby and explained that she had experienced a psychotic episode and needed help.

Amanda called 911 herself following the interaction with the driver.

It's believed that Amanda will be hospitalized for at least three days, but the hold could be extended further than that.

This all took place very close to the day that Amanda's conservatorship was lifted one year ago.

Ten years ago, Amanda's mother was named her conservator after her daughter was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Ventura County's Judge Glen Reiser granted legal control over Amanda's decision making after her parents requested temporary conservatorship. The pair had filed the request after Amanda reportedly started a fire outside her home.

Amanda was placed in involuntary psychiatric care following the fire.

The conservatorship was lifted in March 2022 when Amanda was 35 years old. Amanda's lawyer, David A. Esquibias, commented on the decision, telling Entertainment Tonight, "I’m excited for her. She is excited. We’re all excited and we’re all anxiously looking forward to Amanda living a life as a private and normal citizen."

He continued, "Ms. Bynes’ parents have both been very supportive throughout the entire conservatorship, and have helped her work towards a positive transition into the real world, which was the goal from the beginning of the legal arrangement."

The lawyer concluded, "Ms. Bynes has done very well in a very short period of time that she’s been [living at the structured community for women.] Now she’s able to live on her own independently and free of the conservatorship. Besides normalcy as a person and a student, I know that she is looking forward to what her next step is going to be."

Amanda issued her own statement on the move. As she explained, "Following today's decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time. I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years."

She was also hopeful about her future and added, "In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter. I am excited about my upcoming endeavors, including my fragrance line, and look forward to sharing more when I can."
