Brittney Griner And Wife Make Met Gala Debut Months After Return From Russian Detainment

Brittney Griner and wife Cherelle Griner made their debut at the 2023 Met Gala. The couple wore custom Calvin Klein — Brittney in a tan silk pants set and Cherelle in a white tube dress. This appearance comes months after Brittney's 10-month detainment in Russia.

The 32-year old arrived back in the US in December 2022 after being detained in Russia in February for carrying hashish oil in her luggage at an airport close to Moscow.

During their red carpet appearance, Cherelle shared how she felt about the moment. “This time last year, I was missing my wife, so to have her right here, to be in this moment — breathtaking,” she said.

During a recent news conference, Brittney shared that she will never go overseas again to play basketball, unless it's for the Olympics.

“It’s everything just to be here with my wife and just able to be here,” she said at the Met Gala. “It means so much.”
