Candace Cameron Bure has noticed that body positivity isn’t so trendy anymore. As celebrities unveil their weight loss transformations, the Full House alum can’t help but feel a bit “sad,” she admitted during a recent interview with Fox News Digital. Unfortunately, she grew up during a time when body positivity wasn’t really a thing, and just went she noticed that societal attitudes were changing, people started “suddenly becoming skinny” again.
Because of the standards imposed on people — especially girls and women — when she was growing up, Candace’s body image is “all messed up.” Luckily, her daughter grew up during a time with “so much more body positivity.” But Candace seems worried that society is heading in the wrong direction when it comes to body image.
During the interview, Candace, 49, said that although she’s “middle-aged” now, she still struggles with “all of these thoughts as to the perfect body.” To her, “it’s troubling,” and probably a symptom of growing up in the ‘80s and ’90s.
Seeing that skinny is trending again has been “very triggering” for Candace, and she hopes that it doesn’t have a significant impact on younger generations.

“It can be scary, although I feel like this younger generation has already had so much more body positivity that I hope they understand that it’s a trend,” Candace said. The Full House alum noted that her 26-year-old daughter, Natasha Bure, and her daughter’s friends appear to have a healthier relationship with their bodies — and she hopes it stays that way.
“I hope that they do understand that it’s a trend,” Candace added. “But yeah, it does freak me out. It makes me sad to see everyone suddenly becoming skinny because I think it’s very triggering for a lot of people our age that grew up in the ‘80s and ’90s. It was the ‘Kate Moss era.'”
Candace, who is a devout Christian, added that her faith has helped her cope with her negative body image. “No matter how the culture changes in terms of diet and what fad and what body type is in, I know that God loves me for who I am and my heart and doesn’t pay attention to the exterior and places no value in it whatsoever,” she said.
