Every pet owner believes their fur baby is extraordinary. One cat owner in England has the proof. Nicole Spink’s 14-year-old cat named Bella set a new Guinness World Record for the loudest purr by a living domestic feline.
Bella’s purr was measured at 54.59 decibels. For comparison this is about the same volume as a kettle boiling. Bella is one loud kitty.
Bella loves to purr and sometimes this can get in the way of her Nicole’s television viewing. "You have to turn the TV up so you can actually hear," Nicole explained. "She purrs all day long! If there's food around, or cuddles, she always purrs.” Bella even purrs at the veterinarian’s office, which is almost unheard of.
Nicole and her friends and family have long suspected Bella’s purr was special. "Everyone comments, 'What's that loud noise? Oh, it's the cat,'" Nicole shared. "It's just Bella being happy!"

Bella lives tlife at her home in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, in the United Kingdom, and has not let her new title go to her head. "She always wakes me up early and asks for her food," Nicole stated. "Then she'll ask my kids or anyone else who comes into the house for more food. Then she will sleep, and then she'll want more food and cuddles. Food and sleep is pretty much her life!"
Because she's a mature cat, Bella’s family lets her be a "very lazy girl." She was more adventurous in her youth but she has mellowed in her golden years. She continues to express herself through her loud purrs.
