Cher has her reason for dating younger men, and it's valid in her eyes. In an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the 77-year-old singer opened up about her dating preferences on May 1, 2024. Currently, she's in a relationship with 38-year-old music executive boyfriend, Alexander "AE" Edwards.
She started the conversation off by sharing the reason she turned down Elvis Presley. “It was because I was nervous and I knew of the people around him and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it's just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation," she said.
“I’m really shy when I’m not working and kind of shy around men,” she continued. “And the reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead — but before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me and younger men were the only ones…"
“They’re bold,” Jennifer Hudson said. Cher replied, “Yeah, raised by women like me!" People wasted no time weighing in on the actress' dating choices.

Cher and Alexander were first spotted in November 2022. To confirm their relationship, she posted a photo of him to X with the caption, "Alexander ❤️." When asked by someone if he was her "new man," she simply replied " ."
Of course people had things to say about the couple's age difference, but Cher paid the comments no mind. Responding to backlash, she wrote on X that "Love doesn't know math."
Cher said she fell in love with Alexander over text message, and initially, she did think she was too old for him. However, this isn't her first relationship where there was a large age gap. She's been linked to Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, both around 10 years younger than her. She was 11 years younger than her first husband, Sonny Bono.
In a 2023 interview, she said of Alexander, “No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun. What I learned is that it’s never too late. If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time."
