Chip And Joanna Gaines Have A Strict Social Media Rule For Their Kids: ‘It’s A Challenge’

Chip and Joanna Gaines use social media to promote their multiple business ventures. That does not mean they want their five children to be on the platforms. In fact, they do not allow their kids to have social media until they are 18 and heading to college.

This strict rule does not score Chip and Joanna any points with their kids. It’s not popular, to say the least. The couple opened up about it on an appearance on Today on May 29, 2024.

“Our house rule is you get social media the summer before you go to college … so 18,” Joanna explained. Chip and Joanna’s kids have a wide age range between the oldest and youngest. There’s Drake, 19, Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmie, 14, and Crew, 5. Their house is never boring. So far, Drake is the only one allowed on social media.

If the kids had things their way, things would be different. "But it's a challenge," Chip explained. "You can tell these kids want it before that. It's not like it's this agreed place to where we've all decided roughly 18 and they're like, 'Oh, thank goodness. I didn't want it to begin with.' They wanted it at 12, 13, 14."

Lately, the four younger kids have been "kind of quiet" about their desire to be on social media. "I think they just know the heart behind it, which is hard, I think because all their other friends have it," Joanna mused. She went on to say that her kids get lots of perks because of who their parents are, so you shouldn’t feel too bad for them. Chip and Joanna just want to protect them as much as they can.
