Cop On Duty Approaches Black Couple At Park Just To Talk With Them: ‘I Won’t Let You Down’

Jason Jones and his girlfriend were sitting outside on the grass in Massachusetts when they were approached by a police officer in uniform.

Jason and his girlfriend are black, and the officer, Officer Bill of the Beverly Police Department, is white.

With everything going on in the world right now, it's safe to say the couple may have felt a little unsure and/or uncomfortable as the officer suddenly walked over to them without provocation.

But the policeman did something pretty unexpected. First, he said a quick hello — and then he took it upon himself to sit down in the grass right across from Jason, face him cross-legged, and began engaging him in a dialogue.

In the clip below, watch what happened when Jason started filming. It's pretty incredible that a simple "hi" can turn into such an important conversation.

After Jason shared the video on Twitter, Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur wrote, "This is how we ask our officers to act every day, with every citizen. Thank you for posting this. Racism must stop and bonds must be built."

See the conversation for yourself in the clip. This is awesome.
