Officer Pulls Over Stolen Truck And The 2 Kids Inside Tell Him The Driver Is Not Their Dad

When a child is kidnapped, we hope to see justice being served quickly after finding the kids safe and sound. Thankfully, that is exactly what happened in this situation.

An alleged kidnapper was caught on bodycam footage in Hillsborough County, Florida. Kevin Smith, 37, stole a truck with two young kids inside. He is being charged with grand theft auto and two counts of felony kidnapping.

Deputy Jonathan Pazmino Alvarez was flagged down by the children’s father, who was in complete panic mode. He explained to the deputy that his truck was stolen and his children, ages 4 and 8, were inside. Minutes after the deputy was informed of the situation, he spotted the stolen vehicle.

Once the deputy got close to the stolen truck, he used his public address system, which is the megaphone on top of the police car, to instruct the driver to pull over into the parking lot immediately.

When the man pulled the truck over, the deputy immediately approached and started asking the driver questions. In the bodycam footage, you see the officer grabbing and slightly pulling on Smith’s arm asking him to step out of the car. For some reason, Smith keeps repeating to the officer, “It’s not me.” You then hear one of the kids say, “That’s not my dad.”

Even though the deputy is staying calm and collected as he tries to pull Smith out of the car, Smith keeps pulling back, attempting to stay in the vehicle. When he finally obeys the deputy, Smith is arrested on the scene.

The kids who were in the vehicle were safe and free of any injuries and were safely reunited with their father. No child should ever have to go through that type of incident, but I am very happy to see that they both were OK, and nobody was harmed.
