A sweltering summer day can be uncomfortable, but when the air conditioner in your home breaks down, it can quickly turn into a life-threatening situation. In a heartbreaking turn of events, a seemingly routine issue with a home air conditioner led to a devastating tragedy. Ramona and Monway Ison, a loving couple, lost their lives as they battled against the sweltering heat. Despite their efforts to secure a loan for the much-needed repair, Ramona and Monway’s lives were tragically cut short.
Ramona and Monway were high school sweethearts and had been married for 52 years. When their air conditioner broke, they were told it would be a simple repair, but it would cost $1,400 to $1,600. Ramona and Monway were proud people and did not want to ask their family for financial help.
In an interview with Inside Edition, their daughter Roxanna explained her parents' financial situation, “They were on a fixed income with social security and my dad had just a small pension. They hadn’t told the family what had happened, they were very independent.” Instead of asking for help from their family, Romana and Monway applied for a $2,000 loan from a local credit union.
Their loan application was approved just four days after they applied, offering a glimmer of hope in their quest for relief from the oppressive heat. With the necessary funds finally secured, they arranged for an air conditioner technician to address the malfunctioning unit — a step towards normalcy and comfort.
The air conditioner repair company agreed to come out the next day to fix their unit, but tragically, fate had other plans. The Isons’ neighbors, who were no doubt concerned by the couple’s uncharacteristic absence, decided to check on them. To their heart-wrenching horror, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Ramona and Monway Ison, along with their loyal dog, inside their home.

Their daughter confirmed with Inside Edition that their cause of death was because of the heat, and they died of hyperthermia. The loss of this lovely couple is a reminder of the life-threatening dangers posed by heatwaves and the urgent need for assistance in such dire circumstances.
