At 48 years of age, rapper Da Brat made headlines when she announced her unexpected pregnancy with wife Jesseca "Judy" Harris-Dupart in People magazine.
Da Brat started her pregnancy journey when she married her wife last year. According to People, Da Brat admits that at 48, "there's a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40."
Da Brat told People, "It started as a joke, we were like, 'We're extending our family!' But then we got a huge response. It was like, 'Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!'"
Da Brat's wife, Jesseca, already has three children from a prior relationship. But for Da Brat, kids weren't ever really a part of her plan. She told People, "I never thought I was going to have kids."
She went on to say, "I just thought it wasn't in the cards for me. I've had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn't get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn't going to happen for me."
But her perspective changed when she met her wife. Da Brat went on to tell People, "I started looking at life so differently. I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally."
Now, at 48 years old, Da Brat is pregnant! She told People, "Everything makes me cry. If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I'm like, I'm tougher than that!" The rapper took to Instagram to share the new photos of her bump.
Even though Da Brat keeps a tough persona, she told People, "I think people are going to be shocked" about her pregnancy.
