Demi Moore is 61 years old, but as she ages, she almost appears to look… younger? The Ghost actress has dealt with plastic surgery rumors for many years, and in 2010, she sort of hinted at having work done. At the time, she told Elle that she “had something done” but “it’s not on my face.” She then went on to say that she might consider plastic surgery in the future. “You know what? Maybe one day I’ll go under the knife,” she said at the time.
Lately, Demi has been in the news for her role in The Substance, a body horror film about a woman who takes a substance to create a younger, more attractive version of herself. While promoting the film, Demi has spoken to many different sources about aging, beauty standards, womanhood, and body image.
While the message is powerful, some fans felt that Demi was not necessarily the right messenger because of her dramatic transformation over the years.
During an interview with Today, Demi said, “to me, this is the most exciting time of my life.” At 61, Demi is trying “to be as present in the moment as possible.”
“And what I feel from that is an excitement of possibilities,” she continued. “That we’re defining a new, I don’t want to say a generation, but we are what the future is for women.”

She went on to explain that she “placed a lot of value on what my body looked like, as being a defining marker of whether I belonged or not, whether I could succeed or not.” While much of the pressure to look a certain way might be external, Demi said that the film also portrays “the violence that we have against ourselves.”
“At the end of the day, it’s the violence of how we look in the mirror, the compare and despair that leaves us feeling so bankrupt,” Demi said.
However, when Today shared snippets of the interview on Instagram, many people who commented on it were skeptical — not of the message, but of the messenger.
“Ugh she sets unrealistic standards with whatever invasive or non invasive procedures she’s done, constant upkeep of facials and treatments,” one person commented. “Her words ring shallow. Not all women can afford to ‘age’ as she chooses.”
Another Instagram user wrote, “I’d have more respect for her declaration of aging if she hadn’t clearly had work done.”
So has Demi had work done? Given that rumors about Demi Moore’s alleged procedures have been circulating for years, a plastic surgeon decided to weigh in.
In a video shared on Instagram, Dr. Jonny Betteridge said, “We need to talk about Demi Moore’s transformation because, at 61 years old, she looks like she’s aging backwards.”
In the video, Jonny showed images of Demi from a few years ago in which signs of aging were more apparent. He pointed to “skin laxity” and “volume loss” as visible signs that Demi was getting older.
He then shared a more recent photo of Demi and said, “notice how her face has changed from how we saw it a few years ago to now: a much more lifted and tighter appearance.”
Demi probably achieved this through cosmetic procedures, he explained. “These changes are likely attributed to a deep plane face and neck lift,” he said in the video. He also pointed out how “her eye area has a much smoother contour and her eyelids are also more visible,” which he thinks is probably a result of “an upper and lower blepharoplasty.”
