Michael Packard is a husband, father of two teen sons, and lobster diver with 40 years of experience. On a Friday morning, Michael was out diving for lobsters off Cape Cod when the unthinkable happened.
After jumping into the water, he felt a bump — like a truck slamming into him.
He said suddenly everything went dark. At first he thought he was being attacked by a deadly white shark … but realized that whatever had gotten ahold of him didn't actually have teeth.
"Oh my God, I'm in the mouth of a whale," Michael realized.
He was right; Michael was in the mouth of a massive humpback whale for at least 30 seconds, thrashing around and struggling to breathe, and grasping for the breathing regulator that got knocked from his mouth.
Michael feared he was going to die … that he'd either be swallowed or suffocated right there, inside the whale's mouth.
Thankfully, Michael lived to tell the tale.
