Worried about the current state of the economy? According to President Donald Trump, you probably shouldn’t be — because rising costs and other economic concerns are part of “a con job by the Democrats.” During a conversation with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump largely dismissed concerns about the United States economy and said “costs are way down” right now.
“The economy is as strong as it’s ever been,” Trump told Ingraham. Pushing back on this claim a bit, Ingraham questioned, “Then why are people saying they’re anxious about the economy?” In response, Trump claimed that people are not actually saying this. “I don’t know that they are saying that; I think polls are fake,” he said. “We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.”
Attempting to explain why there’s talk of financial stress when it supposedly does not actually exist, Trump claimed that it’s “a con job by the Democrats.” He alleged that “anchors at ABC, CBS and NBC and CNN” report on economic concerns because Democrats “feed” them this information and they run with it. “They put out something, say, ‘Today costs are up,'” Trump claimed, adding that news anchors will allegedly do “exactly what [Democrats] say.”

He continued with, “It’s such a rigged system. So are you ready? Costs are way down. Gasoline is going to be hitting $2 pretty soon, or around $2. Gasoline is at 2.70 now, and it was at 4.50 under Biden, under Sleepy Joe.” Per Forbes, the average price of gas in the U.S. is actually $3.07 per gallon. A year ago, it was $3.08.
Though many social media users obviously disagreed with Trump’s claims about the economy, they were not necessarily surprised by what he said. “As Trump sits in his gilded bubble, one thing Americans know is how much things cost while Trump didn’t even know the word ‘groceries,'” one social media user wrote. After all, with an estimated net worth of $6.5 billion, he’s clearly not struggling at all. “He’s not wrong, his personal economy is the best it’s ever been,” another person said. A third person added, “For him — yes. For the rest of us — not so much.”
Many others also slammed Trump for calling anything that makes him uncomfortable “fake.” A fourth person said, “Anything that he doesn’t agree with is fake. He is unable to face reality.”
On November 5, Trump took to Truth Social to assert that the economy is amazing, actually. He wrote, “On this day, November 5th, one year ago, we had one of the Greatest Presidential Victories in History — Such an Honor to represent our Country. Our Economy is BOOMING, and Costs are coming way down. Affordability is our goal. Love to the American People!”
