After announcing their separation last year, Today cohost Dylan Dreyer and her ex-husband, Brian Fichera, are officially divorced. Now that they’re no longer living under the same roof, Dylan, 45, has a new roommate of sorts: her mother, Linda.
On a recent episode of her Parent Chat podcast, Dylan confirmed that her divorce has been finalized and revealed that her mom has been providing a lot of support. The arrangement is not exactly what Dylan ever envisioned for herself (and probably not what her mother imagined, either), but she feels extremely grateful.
Dylan explained that her mom has been staying with her “for months at a time.”
She confirmed that this arrangement is because of her recent divorce. “Why does my mom live with me? What is happening in my house that I have now taken up residence and have my mom as a roommate?” Dylan said on her podcast. “As you know, I’m recently divorced.”
She continued, “So, my mom has been staying with me for months at a time.” Dylan is mom to three children: Calvin, 9, Ollie, 6, and Rusty, 5. As Dylan navigates the aftermath of her divorce and adjusts to the major life change, her mom has helped out with childcare.
“I don’t know what I would do without having my mom here,” Dylan admitted. “I don’t think a couple years ago, my mom ever thought that she would be kinda living with me, emptying out backpacks, cleaning off the lunch boxes, and helping me run everybody around. But it is what it is, and now she’s here.”
Dylan has talked about her and her ex-husband’s co-parenting dynamic before.
Based on the way she described it, it sounds like they continue to maintain a positive relationship even after their split. When she announced their separation via Instagram in July 2025, she wrote, “We began as friends, and we will remain the closest of friends. Most importantly, we will continue to co-parent our three wonderful boys together with nothing but love and respect for one another.”
She hasn’t shared a ton of details about what ultimately led to their separation, but in November 2025, described it as “freeing,” in a way, to realize that their marriage was “broken” and couldn’t be fixed. Accepting that allowed them to “take this new step forward.”
Obviously, their divorce is still quite recent.
So, it makes sense that there’s still a lot to figure out and adjust to. In the meantime, however, the fact that Dylan’s mom has been helping out around the house has allowed her to spend more time with her children.
While living together, they’ve also become quite aware of how their approaches to parenting differ. During the podcast, Linda described her daughter as very “lax” as a parent.
After spending months living with her daughter and her grandchildren, Linda noted, “I’m surprised that — what’s the word? — you’re a little lax in certain things, maybe?”
She added, “But that’s because the world is so different. When you guys were kids, this was law and order. You don’t have law and order.”
