An Elderly Dog Slips And Falls Hundreds Of Feet Down A Ravine In New York

Dogs are man’s best friend, often performing important jobs for their owners. Sometimes, even they need a little help. This was the case in Ovid, New York, on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

A senior pup was going on a walk but slipped on some leaves. He fell 175 feet into a ravine. When his owner tried to stop the dog from falling, they also fell in but were uninjured. The Ovid Fire Department rescued the pup as the owner was able to walk out on their own.

Unfortunately, the dog was slightly injured in the fall. The owner was able to walk the dog to an open area of the ravine to make the rescue easier. The Seneca County Rope Rescue Team utilized a Stokes basket to get the canine to safety.

Once the furry friend was brought up out of the ravine, he was able to walk. He was taken to get warm. He then reunited with his owners and family.

The Ovid Fire Department posted about the incident on Facebook. Many took to the comments to thank the first responders.

“Thank you to you all…you are a blessing to the town,” wrote one user.

“It’s awesome to see our Amish community firefighters come out on a Sunday their special day,” pointed out another user.

Ovid has large Amish and Mennonite communities, so some of the rescuers were working on their Sabbath.
